TEN WORKSHOP TIPS TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE

1. AMERICAN CLASSIC – The Twist Resist spoke tool is the only method to properly torque a wheel. It is designed to prevent light spokes winding up and apply proper torque to the spoke tip. Competition Cycle Services, Sheboygan WI makes it. Part 4610 can be ordered by shops from Quality Bicycle Parts.

2. CONTINENTAL – Always place the main model hot patch on the driver side of the wheel. It should be centered over your valve stem. This will give you a factory look and allow you to locate the valve quickly when fixing a flat.

3. DT SWISS: Turn the tire bead 180 degrees towards the valve stem. This will ensure that the valve doesn’t prevent the bead sitting down in the rim. To make it slide on the bead easier, use a little soapy water. The bottom bead should be seated. You can hold it down by using your knees or feet. Next, move the lever up and towards the stem. Keep the other end of the seated beads from sliding open by moving the knee or foot. As you get closer to the end, move the tire lever one inch at a stretch. Keep the tube from getting pinched by inserting the tire lever so that the hook touches the edge of your rim. Enduro and DH tires can be used with alloy tire levers

4. LEZYNE – Keep the Alloy patch kit container until it is full. It’s waterproof and can be used to store miscellaneous items in a hydration bag that is sealed from the elements. We offer refill tire patches as well as glue for the Alloy Kit.

5. MAGURA: Bleeding hydraulic disc brakes is something that many riders fear. This is not difficult nor time-consuming. Magura Professional Bleed kit is affordable and works with all hydraulic brake systems. It’s simple to use and ensures an air-free bleed. It is much more enjoyable to bang the bike off-road if it has a snappy, firm feel at its brake levers.

6. MUC-OFF: Keep in your shop a canister Muc-Off Dirtwork Wipes. It will make it easy to clean your hands and keep your tools clean. Clean tools make it easier to work faster and more efficiently. Cedric Gracia is the one who does it.

7. RACE FACE – Lightly grease the threads of the cockpit component bolts. This will ensure that the bolt has sufficient clamping torque and reduce creaking. After the bolt is properly torqued, the head and bolt threads must be securely seated.

8. SRAM: Buy a dental pick. This is the most important tool in your new mechanics kit. It can be used for cleaning cables housings, grabbing cables and adjusting small parts.

9. SYNTACE: Every mountainbiker who rides his own bike must have our Torque Tool and Bit Set. Most riders are still unsure of the torque for their hardware clamps. They end up crushing good carbon parts. You will only use a complete, cycling-specific torque wrench set if you have it. You must torque the bolts according to the correct specifications.

10. WTB: Use electrical tape only as a rim-strip when there aren’t any other options. Over time, electrical tape can dry out, crack and fall off. It can then expose a sharp spoke hole.
